BambooTimbre™

Certified Green

Bamboo Forest

Maria Yee introduced her patented BambooTimbre™ furnishings to the public in 2005. BambooTimbre rivals solid hardwood for quality furniture making. In 2008 BambooTimbre received Forest Stewardship Council certification (Cert. no. SCS-COC-001524).

While bamboo has been used in architecture and construction for centuries, it took Maria years of research and development to refine the technology used to create BambooTimbre.  From the type of bamboo used to the specific patterns in which the material must be layered and bonded, it was Maria’s passion and determination that made the endeavor successful.

Before the raw materials could be shaped into beautiful pieces of furniture, Maria further innovated her BreathingJoinery™ system to craft solid bamboo furnishings without using nails or screws. The resulting creations blend age-old techniques with modern technology and environmental principles to produce a truly unique piece of art.

Raising the Eco Bar

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing renewable resources in the world. Unlike hardwood, which takes decades to mature, Maria Yee’s Moso bamboo can be harvested within five years – qualifying it as a “rapidly renewable” resource according to the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED. Additionally, it helps reduce carbon dioxide gases, a cause of global warming, by absorbing up to 12 tons of carbon dioxide per hectare, and prevents soil erosion with its extensive root system.

Maria Yee sets new benchmarks for the industry with its genuine green manufacturing practices and environmental stewardship. The company's core belief that if we take from the earth, we should give back to the earth guides the immediate and long-term business practices. Maria worked tirelessly to establish a green supply chain in China with the company's bamboo suppliers to educate, train and support the local growers to acquire and maintain FSC certification. Maria Yee did this voluntarily because we are devoted to helping establish a responsible system to manage our natural resources.

Maria Yee goes one step further with her EcoLuxury™ furnishings - Luxury that is ecologically responsible. We ensure that the adhesives used meet worldwide standards for indoor air quality. Furthermore the formaldehyde levels, tested against the EN717-1 standards, are so low they are undetectable.
